Space is limited, and residents can register on the Schenectady County website or by calling (518) 388-4775. Having household hazardous waste collections allows for the safe and proper disposal of harmful chemicals that can harm the environment.

Sara Mae Pratt, chair of the Environmental Conservation for Schenectady County Legislature, said many people find themselves with unused or unwanted household chemicals at this time of year and look to discard them. “Our upcoming Household Hazardous Waste event on June 1 provides a safe and responsible way to dispose of these items,” she said.

Pratt hopes residents will consider the environmental impacts of throwing away harmful and harsh chemicals. The county will hold two more household hazardous waste collections this year.
