ALBANY, N.Y. ( NEWS10 ) — The University at Albany is opening a new facility to help train the next generation of workers in the science and technology fields. The university unveiled on Tuesday a new home for the College of Nanotechnology, Science, and Engineering.

It is located inside the former Albany High School building. The number of students in the College of Engineering has increased by 30 percent in the past five years. Officials said the new facility will prepare students for jobs that can be found in the Capital Region.

“Because the future of education, of engineering, of technology, is going to happen right here,” UAlbany Pres. Havidan Rodriguez said.

The building served as Albany’s high school until 1974. Construction crews still have one more part of the building to renovate. The project is expected to be finished in three years.
