Agreement reached to drop 2019 civil suit against city of Albany

ALBANY, N.Y. ( NEWS10 ) — Nearly five years after a civil suit was filed against the city of Albany, an agreement has been reached. In August 2019, lawyers representing Ellazar Williams filed a civil suit against the city.

Williams was shot by police in 2018 after he ran away from police who tried to stop him because he matched the description of someone with a gun in the area. He was paralyzed from the shooting, but police ruled the shooting was justified .

On Thursday, the city and Williams’s attorneys reached an agreement to withdraw the civil suit, but the city said it is doing so without admitting liability .
