TROY, N.Y. ( NEWS10 ) — After eight fights on the Team Combat League (TCL) circuit, Schenectady native Jahyae Brown is about to get back in the ring, and return to his pursuit of a world title.

Brown is set to fight Daulis Prescott on Sep. 14 at Mass Mutual Center in Springfield, Massachusetts – only about an hour-and-a-half drive from Schenectady, so he’s expecting to have a good support system in attendance.

Prescott is 38 years old, and has almost 60 professional fights under his belt. But Brown’s confidence isn’t wavering, even going up against a veteran fighter.

“I feel like I’m gonna work him down,” said Brown. “Me versus him in his prime, he still couldn’t beat me. I feel like I’m gonna retire him. I’m going for the knockout, and I’m gonna retire him. And I feel like I got the best coach. I feel like I got the best team around me.”

TCL is a professional boxing league that uses a team-based format. Brown fought for the Orlando Vipers. Those matches did not count towards his professional record, which still sits at an impressive 14-2. His last bout prior to his stint in the TCL came against Michael Ramirez on Jan. 26. Brown recorded a win via knockout.

And his coach, Samuel Bunch, is ready to see Brown pick up where he left off before his first TCL fight in April.

“This is where he’s supposed to be,” said Bunch. “It’s back to reality. It’s back to him becoming a world champion. That [TCL] stuff was somethin’ that, to me, he was wasting his time with. Now he’s back to doin’ what it takes for him to be a world champion.”

Brown has had his own little training partner throughout his preparation for this fight: 9-year-old Elisha Hudson. Since was four years old, Hudson has been coming to Griswold Heights Community Center, where Brown often trains.

Hudson is hoping to make the trip to Springfield to watch his idol in action.

“He’s a really hard and dedicated worker,” said Hudson. “He comes here almost every day and works out. He’s really good, and I think he will win his title. All these people look up to him; I look up to him, everybody here looks up to him. So I think Jahyae…he’s gonna win.”

For tickets to the fight on Sep. 14, Bunch is encouraging people to reach out to Brown on Facebook .
