The latest Storm Tracker forecast from meteorologists Matt Mackie & Kevin Appleby:

High pressure centered over the eastern Great Lakes is keeping us dry this morning – though it’s still not the nicest looking start.

Smoke from Canadian wildfires remains in place overhead. Because the worst of this smoke is higher up in the atmosphere, it’s not a huge air quality concern – though you may want to limit your time spent outside if you do have respiratory issues, or are otherwise sensitive to smoke.

More clouds will develop this afternoon as temperatures rise into the mid 80’s. Like yesterday, a few showers, downpours, or thunderstorms could develop. One or two of them could be on the stronger side, with heavy rain and gusty winds. At the same time, many will miss out on rain entirely. A very “hit-or-miss” forecast.

Any shower or storm activity will fizzle as the sun sets and we lose the heat of the day. Expect overnight lows in the 50’s and 60’s across the region.

With high pressure more directly centered over eastern New York and western New England on Friday, most stay dry and temperatures trend warmer – in the upper 80’s for the Capital District, and low 80’s in the higher terrain.

The weekend looks awfully unsettled, with showers on Saturday, and a better chance for storms on Sunday. Humidity will surge, though afternoon high temperatures themselves will run at or just below average.

The wet weather continues into Monday, before rain chances and humidity begin to back off on Tuesday. Then, a nice day Wednesday – refreshingly cool in the morning, bright and comfortable in the afternoon. Something to look forward to!
