HONG KONG ( NEWS10 ) — For the last two years, Queensbury native Brigid Duffy has shined for Army West Point women’s lacrosse on a national stage. Now, she’ll be putting her talents on display…on the world stage.

Duffy is a captain for the United States Women’s U20 (under-20) National Team competing at the World Lacrosse 2024 Women’s U20 Championship in Hong Kong, which got underway Thursday.

The U.S. has been a powerhouse in this event over the years, winning five of the seven junior world championships. They’ve garnered the top overall seed yet again this year.

It’s an achievement in itself just to land on this team. To captain it is a dream come true for Duffy.

“To be able to lead this group of girls and be put in that position…it’s definitely a big responsibility, but I’m ready for it,” said Duffy. “And I’m alongside two other girls (Boston College’s Shea Baker and Northwestern’s Madison Taylor), so the three of us are working together, and having a lot of fun. I’m so excited…being able to walk out wearing “USA” on my jersey; knowing that people from across the world are watching our games. It’s just an amazing honor to be a part of this team.

The U.S. opens up pool play Friday with an 8:00 p.m. (8:00 a.m. EST) match against Germany. All the games can be streamed on World Lacrosse TV .
