Indian restaurant opening in former Amsterdam Pizza Hut

AMSTERDAM, N.Y. ( NEWS10 ) — The former Pizza Hut in Amsterdam is getting new life. Grand Indian Kitchen is set to open in the space and will be the second location of Great Indian Kitchen in Guilderland.

Benny Thottam, one of the owners of Great Indian Kitchen, said Grand Indian Kitchen will have a very similar menu to the Guilderland restaurant. The Amsterdam location will have a lunch buffet, with a la carte dishes offered, as well as a la carte dinners.

Great Indian Kitchen opened at 1652 Western Avenue in Guilderland in April 2022. The restaurant serves samosas, chicken tikka masala, masala dosa, lamb curry, saag paneer, and more. You can view the full menu on the Great Indian Kitchen website .

Thottam said they have been doing renovations on the former Amsterdam Pizza Hut located at 4822 Route 30. That Pizza Hut, along with the Pizza Huts in Johnstown, Gloversville, Cobleskill, and Ballston Spa, closed in July 2023 .

Thottam plans to open Grand Indian Kitchen in late September or the beginning of October. The restaurant will be open daily from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., but may be closed one day a week.

“We have good reviews in Albany and customers are happy with the service provided,” said Thottam. “We would like to extend that to the Amsterdam area.”
