Police search for reservoir missing Bennington man

BENNINGTON, Vt. ( NEWS10 ) — Police are searching near the Sherman Reservoir for a missing 59-year-old Bennington man after finding his car nearby on Friday morning. Matthew Houskeeper’s white 2023 Subaru Crosstrek was found abandoned near 2445 Tunnel St. in Whitingham, but Houskeeper remains missing.

Bennington Police Department said Houskeeper was last seen on Wednesday in Manchester, Vermont, at around 9:30 a.m. Police said they spent Saturday, Aug. 17, searching the Sherman Reservoir for Houskeeper with the Underwater Recovery Team, the Vermont Department of Fish & Wildlife, New England K9 Search and Rescue, and Rescue Inc.

Bennington Police were notified on Thursday of Houskeeper’s failure to arrive for work and that his office checked his home and he wasn’t there, nor was his Subaru Crosstrek. Houskeeper is a white man who is six foot one, 210 pounds, with gray-blonde hair and blue eyes.

The police are working with his family and local law enforcement to locate him. Anyone with information or who sees Houskeeper is asked to contact the Bennington Police Department at (802) 442-1030 or on the Bennington Police website.
