In June, Northup pleaded guilty to leaving the scene of an incident that resulted in the death of a Queensbury resident, 30-year-old Shane Winchell. Following an investigation into the accident, it was determined that Northup was the driver of the vehicle and made no effort to report the incident or get help for Winchell.

“It is a credit to law enforcement that they were able to track down and identify the driver of the vehicle so that he could be held accountable,” District Attorney Carusone said. “While there is no sentence that will bring Mr. Winchell back to his children, family and friends, the defendant will serve a prison sentence due to his callous action of leaving a young man to die on the side of the road.”

Second arrest made in connection to robbery at Dick’s House of Sport

At his sentencing, members of the victim’s family gathered in the court room. Northup was issued a sentence of two to six years in prison.
