Troy woman arrested on firearm, DWI charges

WATERVLIET, N.Y. ( NEWS10 ) — The Watervliet Police Department reported the arrest of a Troy woman following a traffic stop. Chaniqua Donato, 34, is facing multiple charges.

On August 31, officers pulled over a car in Watervliet for a reported vehicle and traffic law violation. The driver, identified as Donato, was taken into custody for allegedly driving while intoxicated after being interviewed by officers.

During the arrest, police located a loaded, illegally owned handgun with a defaced serial number in the vehicle. Donato now faces the following charges:

• Second-degree criminal possession of a weapon
• Aggravated driving while intoxicated
• Multiple vehicle and traffic law violations

Donato was arraigned at the Watervliet City Court before being remanded to the Albany County Correctional Facility without bail.
