GUILDERLAND, N.Y. ( NEWS10 ) – The annual Pet Connection Tailgate Party kicked off Saturday at the Tailgate Tavern. The event is the biggest pet fundraiser of the year, with nearly $32,000 raised for the homeless pets. The party took place from noon until 6:30 p.m., and was comprised of live music, a live auction, a barbeque, and a raffle.

Three bands played at the event, including: Cryin’ Out Loud, Electric Rodeo, and Whiskey Highway. Nearly 400 people attended, and donated to the cause with a $25 entrance fee. New pet connection merchandise was also sold at the party.

The event has been taking place for five years, and the money raised will go to adoption fees, for animals taken home at another event happening later in September. Steve Caporizzo said the help given to the animals could not be possible without the help from those at the event.

“Well, I’ve always said that pet people are the best people,” said Caporizzo. “It’s a celebration to raise money, to raise awareness the plight of the homeless animal, and the money we raised will hopefully save another pets’ life.”

Those at the event said that the most important takeaway from the event is the spread of awareness for pets in need of a home.

“I mean, there’s a huge need throughout the district, not just in Albany County, or Rensselaer County, or Schoharie County,” said Amy Smith. “I just think it’s a great benefit and it definitely will make a difference, a difference in a lot of pets’ lives.”

Some at the party, like Kate Nobitsky, said she is a fan of Steve Caporizzo, and makes sure to attend his fundraising events, because she knows just how much money goes to helping animals.

“I’m a huge supporter of Steve and his fundraisers, and I love dogs, and our most recent rescue was off of Steve Caporizzo,” Nobitsky said.

Pet Connection donates to shelters and recuses all around the region, outside of events like the tailgate, but Caporizzo said events like these have a great impact on giving back.

“I’m always amazed, and sometimes I can’t believe what a group of people can do to make a difference for pets,” Caporizzo said.
