    Coeymans man, juvenile arrested for alleged assault

    COEYMANS, N.Y. ( NEWS10 )– Albany County Sheriff’s Office arrested a 31-year-old Coeymans man and a juvenile on Saturday for multiple charges, including second-degree assault. Deputies said Thomas Mason Jr. was arrested after deputies said they were surrounded by roughly 20 people who attempted to interfere with Mason’s arrest.

    Deputies said they were called to a disturbance on Main Street in Coeymans around 8:15 a.m. and found a man in the street who became aggressive as deputies approached him. Deputies added the man, who was later identified as Mason, was showing signs of intoxication.

    Deputies tried to detain Mason as part of the investigation and said he became combative. While attempting to put Mason in custody, deputies said they were surrounded by approximately 20 people who interfered with the arrest and left multiple deputies injured.

    According to Albany County Sheriff Craig Apple, a juvenile boy was arrested for his involvement and was issued an appearance ticket for Albany County Probation on Wednesday, Sept. 18, at 10 a.m. The juvenile was charged with second-degree assault, second-degree obstructing governmental administration and resisting arrest.

    Mason was charged with second-degree assault, second-degree obstructing governmental administration, and resisting arrest. He is scheduled to be in Coeymans Town Court on Thursday, Sept. 19, at 9 a.m. and remains in Albany County Jail in lieu of $60,000 cash bail or $80,000 bond.
