ALBANY, N.Y. ( NEWS10 ) — Siena Research Institute and the New York Times released another national poll regarding this year’s presidential election. Topics ranged from the top issues voters are concerned about to how risky they feel electing each candidate would be.

The poll starts with the question of whether voters think the country is on the right track or not. 30% of likely voters said the country is on the right track, 60% said it is going in the wrong direction, and 11% did not know or refused to answer.
Voters were then asked if they are optimistic or pessimistic that America can get back on track over the next decade. 71% of those surveyed were at least slightly optimistic that the country could get back on track while 21% were at least somewhat pessimistic.
When asked who they would vote for if the presidential election were held right now and the candidates were between Former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris, voters were almost evenly split. 47% of voters said they’d vote for Harris, 48% said they’d vote for Trump, and 5% didn’t know or refused to answer.
Siena Poll: Hochul favorability, job approval ratings When it came to political parties, the voter demographic was mainly of the Republican Party. 34% considered themselves a Republican, 31% said Democrat, 29% said they were a part of the Independent party, 3% said another party, and 2% didn’t know or refused to answer.
Voters were also asked about their opinions on the presidential candidates. Trump and Harris both had a 46% net favorable opinion.
The poll then raised the question of whether or not people feel like this presidential election is the most important one in their lifetime. 69% of likely voters said it is the most important one in their lifetime while 29% said it is not and 2% didn’t know or refused to answer.
The economy seems to be the biggest issue likely voters are concerned about when it comes to deciding their vote in November, with abortion second. 22% are concerned with the economy, including jobs and the stock market, 15% are concerned with abortion, and 12% with immigration.
Siena Poll: Harris leads Trump by 14 points in NY The rest of the voters were concerned with things like the character and competency of the candidates, inflation and the cost of living, equality, foreign policy, and climate change. 45% of voters believe Harris would do a better job at handling the issues that the likely voters believe are the most important while 50% believe Trump would.
According to the poll, Project 2025 is not supported by the majority. It only has a 15% net support with 63% opposing it.
Of the likely voters that were polled, 44% believe Trump is a safe choice to elect as president whereas 54% believe he is a risky choice. 46% believe Harris is a safe choice and 52% believe she would be a risky choice.
