LATHAM, NY ( NEWS10 ) — We don’t usually like to double up on the same team in back to back weeks for our 1st & 10 Game of the Week, but sometimes you have to make an exception. After a huge rivalry win over Shenendehowa, Shaker once again finds themselves in the most interesting matchup of the week. This time, they visit a team that just made a statement in Week 0: the Niskayuna Silver Warriors.

The Silver Warriors rolled Colonie 52-14 in their first game since making the jump up from Class A, where they won back to back section titles. But Shaker had the statement win of the week with a dominant 28-6 victory over rival Shenendehowa, a team that made it to the Super Bowl last year. The Blue Bison had lost four straight matchups with the Plainsmen, putting that losing streak to bed.

There’s no doubt it was a huge win for Shaker, but they’re making sure there’s no let down as they get ready to take on a talented Niskayuna team. “We’re not the type of program that talks about what we did last year or last week,” said head coach Greg Sheeler. “That stuff doesn’t matter. Every week is a new opponent, a new challenge. Niskayuna is a very good team. They have a very good passing game. They’re very fast on defense and physical. So we’re excited about what we did last week, but that has no relevance this week for a new challenge.”

“Our coaches are on us about it but we as leaders, we make sure everyone’s focused because we know Niskayuna, they’re a good team,” said senior center and nose guard Nick Vona. “They’re going to come out physical, but we keep stacking up good practices and we keep just moving on. We know we’re going to be ready on that Friday night to line up against them and we’re going to be able to adjust in any way we need to.”

Kickoff on Friday is set for 7:00 PM at Niskayuna High School. We’ll have all of your high school football coverage on 1st & 10 every Friday night at 10:30 PM on Fox, and at 11:00 PM on ABC.
