25-year-old Adam Cole stood before a Schenectady City judge to schedule a further preliminary hearing on his case.  Cole allegedly deceived Schoharie EMS workers into looking for a false nearby emergency, then jumped into their ambulance and took off, on August 31.

Cole faces multiple charges including reckless endangerment and driving while impaired by drugs. Cole allegedly stole the ambulance after deceiving EMS workers with claims of a nearby emergency.

Cole’s public defender gave an interesting insight into his client’s mental state.

“Well unfortunately he doesn’t remember anything. I don’t know if he suffered a concussion in the accident or whatever. And I know he’s received some treatment. Something else I want to get is, when he was at Ellis Hospital what was his treatment there? What was any diagnosis anything like that?” said Schenectady City Assistant Public Defender Paul Callahan

Cole’s preliminary hearing is set for September 26th. He’s also set to face charges in Schoharie County, with a tentative transport date of October 16. At the time of this article, the injured motorist, Jesus Espinal, remains in critical condition.
