ALBANY, N.Y. ( NEWS10 ) — The anticipation for a new season of Albany FireWolves lacrosse is starting to build, especially after a pair of announcements from the organization Thursday afternoon.

The first being the signing of Dyson Williams – the first overall pick in the 2023 NLL Entry Draft – to a three-year contract. A standout at Duke University, Williams ranks third in NCAA men’s lacrosse history in career goals (212).

Williams also has deep roots in the box lacrosse game. His father, Shawn, is an NLL Hall of Famer, and currently the head coach of the Las Vegas Desert Dogs.

This isn’t a traditional situation that a first overall pick is walking into either. The FireWolves don’t need Williams to guide a rebuild, as the club is coming off a season in which it reached the NLL Finals.

Williams will just be adding to what is already one of the most youthful, exciting rosters in the league.

“Getting the championship experience for a lot of the guys last year obviously is going to help, and they now know what it takes to get there,” said Williams. “Coming in as a new guy, I’m just excited to listen to what guys have to say; follow the leaders, and just get used to it myself. Hopefully [I’ll] make the adjustment quick, and kinda feel like I belong right from the get-go. There’s no doubt in my mind the talent on the [offensive] end will help me succeed. I’m just excited to get to training camp, and start working together gaining that chemistry.”

Albany also announced its home opener is set for Nov. 30. The ‘Wolves will host the Saskatchewan Rush.
