On Monday around 7:30 p.m., police were alerted to a threat made through a post on Snapchat which said “I’m shooting the school tmr.” Detectives traced the post to a Mont Pleasant home using the device’s IP address.

During the ensuing investigation, officers responded to the residence and spoke with a 12-year-old and his parent, who cooperated with police, resulting in the minor being detained and ultimately taken into custody. Police say the parent also voluntarily surrendered a shotgun for safekeeping, which was in the home but was not in the child’s possession.
