Hudson Winter Walk canceled for 2024

HUDSON, N.Y. ( NEWS10 )– After 27 years of the Winter Walk, Hudson’s annual holiday event, the 2024 event has been canceled according to an announcement from Hudson Hall on Friday, Sept. 20. In this spirit of the event however, Hudson Hall will be hosting a smaller holiday event for the community.

In 2023, the event brought thousands to Hudson Hall but despite the growth of the event, Hudson Hall could not financially produce it on its own. A co-producing partnership was created with Hudson Hall and various city groups and despite their best efforts, the Winter Walk requires resources beyond what is available to organizers.

“Winter Walk is a beloved community event. Following much deliberation with our Board of Directors, Winter Walk partners, and key stakeholders, Hudson Hall has made the difficult decision to step down from producing Winter Walk,” said Hudson Hall Executive Director, Tambra Dillon. “We are deeply grateful to the many artists, performers, community groups, business owners, volunteers, and supporters who helped make Winter Walk Hudson’s largest, brightest, and most colorful event of the year, and to the City of Hudson and the Hudson Police, Fire, and Public Works Departments who underpinned its safety and success.”

The Walk began in 1997 as “A Winter Walk on Warren Street” between the 500 and 600 blocks. As the business district grew, the Winter Walk grew with it and eventually expanded to the entire length of Warren Street.

The annual event is a night where residents can enjoy an evening of holiday shopping, family-friendly activities and enjoy local performers. Even though the event is not happening this year, a smaller event with musical performances and activities will happen at Hudson Hall on Dec. 7.

“I want to express my deepest gratitude to Hudson Hall for the tireless dedication and passion they’ve poured into organizing Winter Walk over the years. Their commitment has created countless cherished memories for all of us,” said Mayor Kamal Johnson. “I understand how difficult this decision to step down must be, but I hope they know how much their efforts have meant to the community. While it’s bittersweet to see this chapter close, I’m hopeful that a new generation will rise to continue the legacy, ensuring the spirit of Winter Walk lives on for years to come.”

Additionally, local businesses and parks will be hosting other holiday-themed events. “Hudson for the Holidays” events kick off with the lighting of the Hudson Athens Lighthouse on Nov. 2 and continue with attractions including Santa’s Village and a tree-lighting at 7th Street Park on Dec. 7 and the lighting of the Menorah at 7th Street Park on Dec. 25.
