The Latest Storm Tracker Forecast from Meteorologists Matt Mackie and Kevin Appleby:

After the longest dry streak Albany has seen in over sixty years, much-needed rain has returned to Albany and the entire News10 viewing area this morning. While it won’t be raining all day long, cloud cover will hang tough today. Even more rain, some of it heavy, is expected Thursday ahead of a cold front, but more tranquil weather arrives just in time for the upcoming weekend.

A lull in shower activity is expected around lunchtime, but more showers look to arrive into this evening. Most of Wednesday’s rains will be on the lighter side.

A marine flow will keep temperatures from climbing past the mid 60s regionwide today.

Temperatures won’t drop too much overnight, either – most drop into the 50s, less than ten degrees lower than Wednesday’s maximum temperatures.

More showers look to move in overnight. While it won’t be raining all night long, showers look to become more widespread and steadier into Thursday morning.

Rain will be heavy at times on Thursday, and some rumbles of thunder are also expected. Rain should lighten up by Thursday evening.

We will find ourselves, at least briefly anyways, in the warm sector of this storm. This will allow Thursday’s temperatures to climb a couple more degrees than Wednesday, and you may even notice a brief uptick in the humidity. Some areas may briefly touch 70 degrees.

High pressure reestablishes itself for Friday and into the upcoming weekend. However, we will be dealing with some of the high level clouds that are associated with what will become Hurricane Helene – especially into this weekend when the storm curves to our southwest.

How fitting it is that nice, dry, fall weather continues into Monday – the final day of September – with high temperatures in the low to mid 70s. October, however, looks to start off on a unsettled note, with scattered rain showers and seasonable high temperatures expected.
