The New York State Department of Health’s Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Unit issued a notice about the nursing home’s closure of the McClellan Street site in June after a two-year search for a new owner. Officials of Ellis Medicine said four of the McClellan Street rehab opted to retire.

Nursing home officials said the 33 employees would be welcomed back at equal or better pay if they decided to return to Ellis Medicine for employment. Additionally, Ellis Medicine hosted several at 12 Capital Region nursing homes to assist with employee job searches and provide job assistance programs.

All nursing home residents were successfully transferred to nursing homes in other areas. A collaboration between the New York State Department of Health and Ellis Medicine helped complete the transfer of patients.

Following the site’s sale, Jeff Buell of Redburn Development and Chris Spraragen of Schenectady Hardware and Electric are redeveloping it. Buell and Spraragen plan to seek community input on what should be done with the facility.
