( WJET/WFXP ) – Honda is recalling nearly 1.7 million vehicles in the U.S. over a steering issue that could result in a crash, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration announced Wednesday.

The automobile company found that the assembly of the steering gearbox — which contains gears that help turn the vehicle’s tires — may have been manufactured improperly, which could lead to excessive friction and difficulty steering.

Warning signs include an unusual noise and/or a momentary “sticky” feeling when turning the steering wheel while driving.

    The affected vehicles include:

    • 2023-2025 Acura Integra
    • 2024-2025 Acura Integra Type S
    • 2022-2025 Honda Civic and Honda Civic Hatchback
    • 2025 Honda Civic Hatchback Hybrid
    • 2025 Honda Civic Hybrid
    • 2023-2025 Honda Civic Type-R
    • 2023-2025 CR-V
    • 2025 Honda CR-V Fuel Cell EV
    • 2023-2025 Honda CR-V Hybrid
    • 2023-2025 Honda HR-V

If your vehicle is affected by the recall, an authorized Honda dealer will replace the worm gear spring free of charge, and either “redistribute or add grease” as needed. Owners will also receive a mailed notification expected to be sent out on Nov. 18.

To check if your car is affected by the recall, you can search the NHTSA website using your VIN or the year, make and model of your vehicle.
