Gade Farm earns recognition on state Historic Business Preservation Registry

GUILDERLAND, N.Y. ( NEWS10 )– Gade Farm, a family-owned farm and garden center, has been added to the New York State Historic Business Preservation Registry. The registry recognizes and honors businesses that have been an important part of New York’s economic and cultural heritage for over 50 years.

Founded in 1878 as a small roadside stand, the business has become a multi-generational business that offers a variety of products and services. Today the farm offers seasonal fruits and vegetables, gardening products, and even meats, cheeses and baked goods.

“Gade Farm has been a pillar of Guilderland for well over a century. It’s rare to find a business that has maintained such a strong commitment to the local community while growing and adapting to meet the needs of modern consumers,” Guilderland Town Supervisor Peter Barber said. “The Gade family’s dedication to preserving the heritage of our town while continuing to innovate is truly inspiring. We are fortunate to have such a longstanding business that represents the very best of what Guilderland has to offer.”

The New York State Historic Business Preservation Registry celebrates businesses like Gade Farm that have significantly contributed to the state’s economic and cultural history. Gade Farm’s recognition ensures that the Gade family’s rich legacy and commitment to Guilderland will be recognized and remembered for generations to come.

“Gade Farm is not just a business; it is a treasured institution in Guilderland. For nearly 150 years, the Gade family has been deeply woven into the fabric of our community, providing fresh, local food and a place for families to gather,” Assemblymember Phil Steck said. “Their hard work and dedication to sustainable farming practices have left a lasting impact, and their continued presence ensures that future generations will have access to locally grown produce and a sense of connection to the land. I am thrilled to see Gade Farm recognized as part of the New York State Historic Business Preservation Registry following my nomination, as it is a testament to its enduring importance to the town.”

Jim Gade said the farm has always been about the community and family and the recognition is due to the loyal customers. “We wouldn’t be here without the support of our customers and the Guilderland community,” he said. “We look forward to continuing our legacy of providing quality products and contributing to the community that has supported us for so long.”
