CBA neutralizes Niskayuna as Jones/Anderson connection shines once again

ALBANY, N.Y. ( NEWS10 ) — The Christian Brothers Academy football team just continues to put up gaudy numbers.

The Brothers rattled off a sixth straight victory Thursday night, defeating Niskayuna 47-6 at home. Over its last four outings, CBA is averaging almost 59 points per contest.

And with each passing game, the connection between junior quarterback Archie Jones and senior wide receiver Lucius Anderson appears to grow stronger, as the two have emerged this year as the top QB/WR duo in Section II.

Jones accounted for six of CBA’s seven touchdowns, and threw for 367 yards, while completing 16 of 24 passes. Anderson was on the receiving end of three of Jones’ four TD tosses, and recorded seven catches for 199 yards.

The only touchdown Jones wasn’t responsible for was a 72-yard kick return from Amare “Pop” Coffil that gave CBA a 7-6 lead after Niskayuna started the scoring with a 58-yard touchdown run from its quarterback, Cameron Grasso.

It’d stay a 7-6 game into the second quarter. And on the first play of the quarter, Jones aired out a deep ball for Anderson, who had to catch the ball over his defender, Grasso. Anderson spun out of the grasp of the Silver Warriors star defensive back, and fought his way to goal line to finish off a 50-yard touchdown reception that put the Brothers up 14-6.

Two drives later, Jones took a QB keeper into the end zone from 28 yards out – his first of two rushing touchdowns on the evening. CBA maintained a 21-6 lead by intermission, and outscored Nisky 26-0 in the second half.

CBA (6-0, 5-0) will now prepare for its biggest game of the season: a road trip to Shaker – the No. 8-ranked team in the state for Class AA – Friday at 7:00 p.m.

Niskayuna (3-3, 3-3) has some extra time to prepare for its next outing. The Silver Warriors don’t return to action until Saturday, Oct. 19, when they travel to Class A’s Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake for a 1:30 p.m. kickoff with the Spartans.
