The announcement was made on the Putnam Market Facebook page on October 11. The Wine Room will officially be closing on December 31. Roach will, however, continue teaching wine classes at Putnam Market.

To replace The Wine Room, The Café at Putnam Market will be opening in January. The café will include barista service, afternoon tea, sandwiches, soups, baked goods, and wine and beer by the glass, as well as specialty groceries, sweets, party supplies, and Putnam Market-branded merchandise.

“These changes set the stage for our anniversary celebration in June 2025 when we will celebrate 30 years of an evolution of Putnam Market that is true to the community spirit we cherish,” said the owners.

Sisters Catharine Hamilton and Gloria Griskowitz founded the specialty market in 1995. Putnam Wine opened in 1998. The store started in a warehouse on Putnam Street before moving to Broadway in 2000.
