    Schenectady police identify shooting, homicide victim

    SCHENECTADY, N.Y. ( NEWS10 )– Schenectady Police have identified the 15-year-old in a homicide at a home on Congress Street late Saturday night. Police said Dubar T. Knowles, 15, died at the hospital from his injuries, and a 13-year-old girl is in stable condition and recovering from surgery at a local hospital.

    Schenectady City School District Superintendent Carlos M. Cotto said in a letter to the district on Sunday that Knowles was a freshman at Schenectady High School and the 13-year-old victim is an eighth grader at Oneida Middle School. In the letter, Cotto urged the public to assist police with the ongoing investigation.

    “We expect a variety of reactions to this loss and will have our support team ready,” Cotto said. “Social workers and counselors will be on hand and available at school on Tuesday for anyone who needs support and to talk.”

    Police said they received reports of shots fired at the 1100 block of Congress Street around 11:20 p.m. When police arrived on the scene, they said a large crowd of people fled on foot, and they found Knowles with a gunshot wound to the torso in the backyard of 1122 Congress St.

    Police found the second victim several blocks away on Chrisler Avenue with a gunshot wound around her head and neck. The Schenectady Fire Department treated both victims before they were transported to local hospitals.

    Police said a preliminary investigation found the victims and several other teens were attending a party at 1122 Congress St. when the suspect or suspects began shooting. Schenectady Police added that no one is in custody, and they are working with New York State Police on the investigation.
