    A Schenectady High School Student died in a shooting on Saturday night and another teen was injured. Also, a local teacher was recently named the 2025 New York State Teacher of the Year. These stories, and more, are in your five things to know this Monday.

    1. Schenectady HS student dies in shooting, another teen injured

    Police are investigating a homicide after a 15-year-old boy was shot and killed and a 13-year-old was injured Saturday night in Schenectady. Police identified the 15-year-old victim as Dubar T. Knowles, who was a ninth grader at Schenectady High School.

    2. Meet Colleen Keough, the 2025 NYS Teacher of the Year

    A 2nd-grade teacher at Hamilton Elementary School in the Schenectady City School District was recently named the 2025 New York State Teacher of the Year. In her 16-year teaching career, Colleen Keough has inspired not only her students but her fellow educators to be the best versions of themselves.

    3. New York’s Even Year Election Law ruled unconstitutional

    Several counties challenged the Even Year Election Law— S3505B / A4282B —arguing that it infringes their authority to control local elections and terms for local officials. On Tuesday, New York Supreme Court Justice Gerard Neri agreed, ruling the law unconstitutional from Syracuse.

    4. Schoharie limo operator moved to Attica Correctional Facility

    Nauman Hussain was moved to a new correctional facility. According to the New York State Bureau of Prisons, he is now being held in the Attica Correctional Facility outside Buffalo.

    5. APD: Three firearms recovered during arrests

    Albany Police arrested two adults and a teen from Albany on Willet Street early Saturday morning for alleged firearm possession. Police said Tywone Jackson, 21, Jauwan Giles, 20, and a 16-year-old were all charged with one count of second and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon.
