KINDERHOOK, N.Y. ( NEWS10 ) — Hillary Dargenzio has been in the wine industry since 2010 when she became a Certified Sommelier. Now, she has opened Isola Wine & Tapas in the former Dyad space at 16 Hudson Street in Kinderhook.

“After a decade or so of restaurant, retail and wholesale experience, I wanted to showcase some of my favorite regions I got to travel to as a wine writer,” Dargenzio told NEWS10.

Isola Wine & Tapas officially opened on October 10. Isola means “island” in Italian. Dargenzio said all of her wines come from islands and the coasts of Europe. The tapas are also inspired by those regions but use local ingredients.

Dyad closed in February after nine years. At the time, owner Alex Van Allen said the building has been sold and the new owners did not renew Dyad’s lease.

Dargenzio said the historic building from the 1700s went through extensive renovations including adding a bathroom, building a new kitchen, and more. “Most of the locals say it’s hardly recognizable, but the owners have carefully restored every original detail,” said Dargenzio.

The Isola wine list includes wine from the glass and by the bottle. Chef Fernando Castro is in charge of the tapas menu, which includes tuna tartare, island panisse, lemony sardine toast, scallops, and more. You can view the full food and drink menus on the Isola website .

Dargenzio plans to hold both private and public events in the space. She will be hosting wine tasting classes each month, and have seasonal, ticketed “aperitivo parties.” Isola Wine & Tapas is open Wednesday through Saturday from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m.
