Newburgh woman convicted, sentenced in fatal hit-and-run

KINGSTON, N.Y. ( NEWS10 ) — According to the Ulster County District Attorney’s Office, a Newburgh woman was convicted and sentenced on Tuesday for a fatal Marlborough hit-and-run that killed two people. Angela Fischl, 25, pleaded guilty to two counts of leaving the scene of an incident resulting in death.

The hit-and-run happened on March 1 and caused the deaths of Donna Cristallo and Stephen Celuch, both of Kingston. According to the DA’s Office, they were crossing Route 9W in Marlborough when Fischl hit them.

Fischl did not stop to check on or help the victims but was stopped by law enforcement a few minutes later when she was driving in her badly damaged Kia. She was sentenced to six months in Ulster County Jail and five years of probation. Her driver’s license was also revoked.

District Attorney Emmanuel C. Nneji said, “This was a tragic circumstance; had she stopped as required by law and rendered aid, she most likely would not have faced such serious charges given the total circumstances revealed to us by the evidence in this case. It is truly important to stop because any aid rendered quickly might be the difference for surviving such accidents. Also, it really means something to the family of a victim and the community to know that you cared. As users of the roads in various ways, we all have a responsibility to everyone.”
