Fishkill man arrested following a drug investigation

FISHKILL, N.Y. ( NEWS10 )– A Fishkill man was arrested following an investigation into drug sales stemming from a fatal car accident on Sept. 12. Joseph Kundrat, 32, turned himself into the Town of East Fishkill Police Department and was charged with a felony drug charge.

The Dutchess County District Attorney’s Office Drug Task Force started the investigation after a fatal accident in the area. The driver and deceased party in the accident was found to have a white power substance that agents believed to be narcotics.

According to deputies, agents field tested the substance, determining the substance was both cocaine and fentanyl mixed together. In a further investigation, deputies determined Kundrat was the person who sold the drugs to the driver of the accident.

Kundrat turned himself in on Sept. 30 and was later arraigned in the Town of East Fishkill Justice Court. He was later released but the accident investigation is still ongoing, which can lead to additional charges for Kundrat.

• Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance in the third-degree, a class B felony

According to the task force, cocaine and fentanyl are the source of most of the overdose deaths in the county.
