Life-long horror movie aficionado Truemaster Trimingham, also known as DJ Trumastr, is the creator of the event. This is actually his 13th year putting on a haunted house experience.

From 2001 to 2010, Trimingham put together the “Haunted Museum of Un-Natural History” at the New York State Museum while he was employed there. Money from that attraction went to the Museum’s after-school program for city youth.

After Trimingham retired, the haunted museum attraction left with him. He became a DJ in his retirement, but wanted to bring back his haunted houses.

“I wasn’t done doing haunted houses,” Trimingham told NEWS10. “This haunted house thing was always still in me. The idea of doing it never went away.”

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Trimingham brought back his haunted house attraction for two years to Troy’s Takk House on a smaller scale. After running into Elizabeth Reiss, the President and CEO of the Arts Center, Trimingham decided to revamp his haunted experience at the Center.

The Black Box: 5 Room Haunting Experience consists of five haunted rooms, all with different themes. Trimingham created the concepts himself and is currently working on building the rooms. He said construction should be completed early next week.

Trimingham said many crew members from the “Haunted Museum of Un-Natural History” will be returning for this year’s event.
