1. Israel says Hamas’ top leader Yahya Sinwar was killed in Gaza

Israeli forces in Gaza killed Hamas’ top leader Yahya Sinwar , a chief architect of last year’s attack on Israel that sparked the war, the military said Thursday. Troops appeared to have run across him unknowingly in a battle, only to discover afterward that a body in the rubble was Israel’s most wanted man.

2. Founder of South End Grocery pleads guilty to assault

Travon Jackson, the founder of the now-closed South End Grocery in Albany, appeared in court on Thursday. Jackson was arrested in December for allegedly breaking into an apartment on Bassett Street.

3. One Direction breaks silence on Liam Payne’s death: ‘We will miss him terribly’

Liam Payne’s former bandmates in One Direction have shared a statement on the 31-year-old singer’s death, calling him a brother who they “loved dearly.”

4. The 5 remaining concepts for Reimagine I-787

The New York State Department of Transportation (DOT) has narrowed down the concepts for its Reimagine I-787 study . In June 2023, officials starting looking for the best ways to connect Albany with the surrounding communities by reinventing I-787.

5. Pittsfield HS to reopen Oct. 18 after temporary boiler activated

Pittsfield High School will reopen on Friday, Oct. 18 after it was closed for two days because of a lack of heat in the building. The district said a temporary boiler was inspected and activated on Thursday.
