Beacon man arrested on drug, gun possession charges

BEACON, N.Y. ( NEWS10 )– A Beacon man was arrested Thursday following an investigation into the sale of cocaine and fentanyl in the city of Beacon. George Cintron, 37, faces multiple felony charges.

The Dutchess County District Attorney’s Office Drug Task Force began an investigation in Cintron after agents reportedly bought fentanyl from him numerous times. At the end of the investigation, agents obtained a search warrant for Cintron’s home.

On Thursday night, agents and the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office Emergency Services Unit took Cintron into custody on Beekman Street then executed the search warrant at his home, a short distance away. Upon searching the house, police found he was allegedly in possession of more than 16 ounces of cocaine, fentanyl, ecstasy and had an illegal “ghost” handgun.

Charges:

• Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the first degree, an A-1 Felony
• Criminal Possession of a Firearm in the third degree, a class D Felony

Cintron was held at the City of Beacon Police Department pending his Friday morning arraignment. If convicted of the A-1 felony charge, Cintron can face a life sentence in prison and a fine up to $100,000.

According to the Task Force, cocaine and fentanyl are the leading cause of overdoses in Dutchess County.
