    Albany 18-year-old charged with robbery, grand larceny

    ALBANY, N.Y. ( NEWS10 ) — Albany Police reported the arrest of an 18-year-old after a car theft investigation. Antonio Guynup, of Albany, now faces several charges.

    Police responded to Washington Avenue near Quail Street around 2 a.m. on Monday following reports of a robbery in the area. Arriving officers found a 30-year-old woman in the vicinity who stated that a man had just approached her and repeatedly punched her in the face before stealing her car.

    The victim was tended to at the scene by emergency medical personnel before being taken to Albany Medical Center to be treated for lacerations to her eye and chin. Not long after speaking with the victim, police located a man, later identified as Guynup, driving a car fitting the description of the stolen vehicle near Myrtle Avenue and South Pine Street.

    Officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but police say Guynup initially refused to pull the car over, eventually exiting the vehicle while it was reportedly still moving. The car then crashed into a parked vehicle on Morris Street.

    Guynup was taken into custody shortly thereafter near Partridge Street and Madison Avenue. He’s facing the following charges:

    • Two counts of second-degree robbery
    • Third-degree grand larceny
    • Third-degree unlawful fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle
    • Second-degree reckless endangerment
    • Multiple vehicle and traffic law violations

    Guynup was arraigned at Albany City Criminal Court before being remanded to the Albany County Jail, with bail set at $25,000.
