    Local Burn Bans

    [UPDATE]

Friday, Shelby Fire Chief Tony Holinka announced burn bans are now in effect for the Towns of Shelby and Greenfield.

A ban is also now in place for Vernon County.

    [PREVIOUS]

LA CROSSE (WKBT) -- Due to fire conditions, a number of area municipalities have issued burning bans.

The City of La Crosse says outside open burning of any kind is not allowed in La Crosse or the Town of Medary. That includes outdoor recreational fire pits, use of charcoal grills and fireworks.

In both the City and Town of Onalaska, burning of any combustible materials outdoors is also prohibited. Charcoal grills may be permitted only if they are on a noncombustible surface, Onalaska Fire Chief Pete Fletty added.

Via Facebook post, the West Salem volunteer fire department says there are bans in place for the Towns of Hamilton, Barre and the Village of West Salem.

According to the Wisconsin DNR, the majority of western and south-central portions of the state are under "High" fire danger.

Area fire departments say the bans will remain in place until conditions improve significantly.
