La Crosse School District celebrates youth apprenticeships

LA CROSSE (WKBT) -- The school district of La Crosse is celebrating Youth Apprenticeship Week with an ice cream social.

The week is celebrated nationwide to highlight the importance of apprenticeship programs, which give high school students the chance to get a head start on potential careers.

About 64 Students from La Crosse schools are participating in the program by interning or apprenticing with local businesses.

Britta Rotering is the supervisor of the district's Career & Technical Education programs. She said Tuesday's ice cream social was a celebration of finishing the program.

"My favorite part of tonight is seeing the students with their mentors. With the people that they've been learning and working alongside for a semester, or for the last school year. Being able to recognize the learning, the partnership, the networking," said Rotering.

Some of the 16 career pathways offered through the program include healthcare, graphic design and robotics.
