Foodie Friday: Borgens Cafe and the Old Towne Inn offer homemade comfort classics

    2024-05-10

WESTBY, Wis. (WKBT) -- Every week for Foodie Friday, we talk in-studio with the businesspeople and culinary artisans behind outstanding area restaurants, bakeries, cafes, bars, food trucks, and more.

We want to help our viewers get in touch with the dynamic food scene of the greater Coulee Region while also supporting local, independent businesses.

With Alexandra Carter out today, News 8's Michael Germaine spoke with Blane Charles, Stephanie Rahr, and Veronica Hoiland of Borgens Cafe and the Old Towne Inn , both in Westby.

Borgens Cafe, a historic establishment located in downtown Westby, is "all about homemade comfort foods and homemade pies," said Blane. The restaurant dates back over 100 years.

The Old Towne Inn, which sits just South of Westby, is a traditional supper club, part of the rich lineage of such establishments here in the Badger State. According to patrons, sunsets at the Old Towne Inn are a must-see.

Both restaurants are holding special events to celebrate Mother's Day on Sunday.

"This coming weekend we have a Mother's Day banquet," Veronica said. "It's all you can eat. We'll be having Blane's famous honey-glazed chicken, there'll be beef tips, mashed potatoes, vegetables, desserts, so many things on the buffet."

Tickets to the banquet are $25 for adults and $12 for kids. Children under the age of 5 get in free. Reservations are strongly recommended.
