Western Technical College holds GED graduation ceremony

LA CROSSE (WKBT) -- On Thursday, students from Western Technical College celebrated the end of a journey.

The day had finally come to put on the cap and gown, and walk stage for students receiving their GED's and HSED's from Western Technical College.

The ceremony honored students both above and below the age of 18.

Instead of a traditional graduation ceremony, they opted for a more personal open-house format.

Drew Scheler is the Associate Dean of Learner Support and Transition, he explained the reason for a more intimate ceremony.

"Instead of having a long list of names that we read, we have a much more flexible ceremony where people come in, they get honored personally. And we are doing it on peoples own time so all of our students can kind of have their moment on their own terms," said Scheler.

This year was the largest turnout in Western's history, with about 450 students receiving their high school equivalent diplomas.
