La Crosse BoyChoir celebrates 50th anniversary

LA CROSSE (WKBT) -- The La Crosse BoyChoir celebrated their 50th anniversary with a special spring concert at the Capella Performing Arts Center.

The choir was founded in May 1974. At the first auditions, 60 boys attended. Their rehearsals began in the fall of 1974, culminating in a performance at the Viterbo College Christmas concert that December.

Since then, the choir has toured extensively, performing in the tri-state area, the nations capital, Colorado, Florida, and along the east coast.

The Music Director of the La Crosse BoyChoir says he is eagerly anticipating  the groups performance.

"It's a beautiful hall to sing in even though it's under construction here. But Matt Curtis who owns this, sang in the La Crosse BoyChoir when he was seven years old until he was 14, and so he has a connection into our choir that is very important to us," said Dan Johnson-Wilmot.

The choir is composed of 14 boys.
