High school interns graduate from Gundersen Health System's Project SEARCH

    2024-05-24

LA CROSSE (WKBT) -- Eight interns with Gundersen Health System celebrated their graduation from Project Search on Thursday.

Project Search is a program that teaches special needs high school students job skills in a hospital setting.

The students had the chance to work in different rotations in multiple departments in Gundersen.

The nine month course helped them focus on technical skills in the hospital as well as skills that can be employable in a variety of careers, like filling out applications, going to interviews and attending orientations.

"The program isn't so much about needing or wanting to work in the hospital, although some of our interns do, but it's just about learning how to work and developing all of those skills that will be transferable anywhere they choose to go," said Laura Anderson, Instructor with Project Search.
