La Crosse Historic Preservation Commission grants landmark status to South Community Library

LA CROSSE (WKBT) -- La Crosse's South Community Library is now a historic landmark.

The city's historic preservation commission voted Thursday to approve a historic landmark nomination for the 16th Street building.

Numerous residents came to Thursday's meeting at City Hall to voice support for the nomination. Commission members also noted every email submitted on the topic supported the idea.

After 72 years in service, the library closed in October due to city budget cuts.
