Sparta looks to continue upward trend with help from strong returning core

The Sparta football team has been improving year after year and now they've got a team that is hungry to take the next step during the 2024 season.

It's one of the better two season turnarounds from any of our area teams. In 2022, Sparta was just 1-7 but then last year, the Spartans finished the regular season 5 and 4 and even got a a first round playoff win before falling to the eventual D3 state champion, Rice Lake.

Experience and confidence are high within the team as they're returning eight starters on both sides of the ball including four out of five linemen. It's a large group of seniors that have faced adversity and who are ready take Sparta football to a new level.

"Well I think it really comes down to just focusing on every single game. The focus is always just going one and zero, making positive steps throughout the season and just constantly building so that you're playing your best football at the end of the season," said Sparta head coach, Adam Dow.

"I just think its going to be a big improvement from last year. I think we have more weapons, more power, more everything. I think it's going to be a great season," said senior offensive lineman, Carter Vieth.

The Mississippi Valley Conference looks to be there for the taking and the Spartans look poised to make a run at the top spot. They'll open up their season when they take on Black River Falls on August 23rd.
