News 8 Now's 'Stuff the Bus' campaign will be accepting school supplies for kids in need Friday

LA CROSSE (WKBT) -- As you gear up for back-to-school shopping, why not make a difference in your community at the same time?

News 8 Now is partnering with Coulee Bank for our annual "Stuff the Bus" campaign, which collects school supply donations and distributes them to local children in need.

This Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., visit the La Crosse and Onalaska Walmart locations, where familiar News 8 Now faces will help fill the bus with school supplies.

The collected items will be distributed to more than 400 local children by our partners at the Dahl Family YMCA and the Boys & Girls Club of Greater La Crosse. The YMCA's distribution event is on August 24th from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Michael Quam, Director of Development at the Salvation Army, highlighted the impact of the initiative.

"There's a level of excitement for folks when they see that they're making a donation that's going to be used for the betterment of the community. So many times, not only do we see the parents and the grandparents come up with their donation supplies, but when a child donates to another child, it's pretty awesome," said Quam.

Donations of notebooks, pencils, backpacks, and hygiene products such as Clorox wipes and Kleenex are appreciated.

If you can’t make it to the store, drop off supplies at the Salvation Army or Dahl Family YMCA. Monetary donations are also welcome and will be used to purchase additional needed supplies.
