Log rolling takes center stage at the 7th annual Holmen summer splash

HOLMEN, Wis. (WKBT) -- When you think of traditional water sports, log rolling might not be the first thing that comes to mind.

But that’s exactly what’s making waves at the 7th annual Holmen Summer Splash, which kicked off Friday. The event features a log rolling tournament with participants ranging from beginners to seasoned pros.

Friday was all about the advanced rollers who compete nationwide. Saturday, the spotlight shifted to the beginners, some of whom have been rolling for less than a year.

The Summer Splash director says this tournament is a chance to share her passion for the sport with others.

"For me, it makes me so happy because I get to share my live and passion for the sports with the La Crosse and Holmen area community. So, it's just a really cool thing to see," said Livi Pappadopoulos.

The event has grown bigger every year. When it first started, there were only 16 competitors. This year, that number has grown to 80.
