Coulee Recovery Center raises awareness to end substance abuse stigma

LA CROSSE (WKBT) -- The Coulee Recovery Center is raising awareness to help end the stigma surrounding substance use disorder and mental health.

The campaign has been running all summer, featuring different educational topics each week.

On Saturday, community members had the opportunity to connect and share their stories of addiction, knowing they are not alone.

People had the chance to visit a resource fair, which provides information about addiction and mental health services, including how to access these programs for themselves or a loved one in need.

"Substance abuse can be described as a disease at times, and for many people, it's a disease that they have no control over. So, we basically want to end the labeling for these individuals," said Coulee Recovery Center Intern Corbin Huser.

People also had the chance to listen to live music performed by individuals in long-term recovery.
