Former superintendent accused of fraud and negligence in education reimbursement scandal

CHIPPEWA FALLS, Wis. (WKBT) -- A former HR director for the school district of Chippewa Falls demonstrated "fraudulent conduct and negligence" as the former superintendent of Glenwood City.

That's according to an audit by Intellex Forensics. The 68-page report concludes that while superintendent of the School District of Glenwood City, Tim Johnson fraudulently received $75,515 in education reimbursements while also getting $125,000 for graduate courses he never took.

Tim Johnson also allegedly claimed $38,462 in performance pay as the district's special education director despite not being credentialed as such.

The report also mentions a Ron Johnson, whom Tim Johnson improperly compensated to the tune of $17,500.

Both Tim and Ron Johnson are accused of negligently placing $349,650 into investments that are not compliant with state law.

Tim Johnson worked at Glenwood City from August 2003 to June 2023. After that he was hired at the Chippewa Falls school district as their Executive Director of Human Resources and Public Relations.

Johnson was placed on leave in January when a financial investigation into his actions at Glenwood City came to light. He resigned shortly after that.

Glenwood City's District Administrator released a statement following the audit and announced plans for a session that will present the findings on September 25th. That session is open to the public:
