Law enforcement in Vernon, Monroe Counties experience phone service disruption

VERNON/MONROE COUNTIES, Wis. (WKBT) -- Law enforcement agencies in the region are experiencing disruptions in phone service.

According to the Vernon County Sheriff, they are experiencing trouble with calls connecting to 9-1-1 and their business line from cell phones.

"We believe this stems from a fiber optic cut in the Milwaukee area," Sheriff Roy Torgerson writes in a Facebook post Tuesday morning. "Issues now appear intermittent as full service is being restored.  We have no reason to believe there are any problems with any cellular tower systems locally."

Monday night, the Monroe County Sheriff's Office reported an outage affecting their non-emergency lines. Both incoming and outgoing calls were disrupted. Callers are still able to get through using 9-1-1, though law enforcement stresses to let the call-taker know right away if the call is not an emergency.
