Competency exam ordered for La Crosse man accused of homicide

LA CROSSE (WKBT) -- A competency exam is ordered for a La Crosse man accused of homicide.

In La Crosse County court Tuesday, Judge Scott Horne granted a request from 55-year-old John Stumlin's attorney for a competency exam.

Stumlin is accused of killing 68-year-old Daniel Riordan and attempting to hide his body.

Police arrested Stumlin on August 8.

Stumlin's attorney also requested that the court lower the $1 million cash bond on which he's held. That request was denied.

Judge Horne ordered the competency exam be completed within 15 days.
