La Crescent storm water learning sites

LA CRESCENT, Minn. (WKBT) -- The La Crosse Area Waters honored the city of La Crescent for its efforts in battling water pollution Wednesday.

John S. Harris Park and the intersection of Mcintosh and Eagle Bluff Road are the newest additions to the network of stormwater learning sites.

Each site is designed to direct, capture, and filter polluted water through the ground.

The site at Jonh S. Harris Park features a rain garden with local plants that helps soak up stormwater runoff.

Organizers hope that by showing of the rain garden they can inspire community members to take action with gardens of their own.

"We're trying to showcase why the city is establishing this garden. and the demonstrating that as a resident if you have a home. you can establish a raingarden too and help work on absorbing the rainwater too," said Jason Ludwigson the Sustainability Coordinator for the city La Crescent.
