Onalaska school year kicks off during large scale renovations

ONALASKA (WKBT) -- Onalaska Middle School students are starting up their year in the midst of a $50 million renovation project.

Construction of a two-story addition for classrooms, an artificial turf area, and a new roadway on the north side of the building for family drop-offs and pick-ups have already been completed.

The new roadway will make drop-offs and pick-ups much easier for families and staff.

"It’s going to be great to have a dedicated drop-off and pick-up lane so that we don’t need to be clogging up the city’s streets for that. Having a dedicated place for this will make it safer and provide a smoother process as well," said Principal of Onalaska Middle School Ben Burns.

Additions to 8th grade classrooms and a 21,000 square foot Boys and Girls Club are among construction projects still underway.

Renovations are set to be completed by the end of summer 2025.
