Unloaded gun discovered in student backpack at Chippewa Falls Middle School

CHIPPEWA FALLS, Wis. (WKBT) -- An unloaded gun was found in a student's backpack at Chippewa Falls Middle School after they accidently brought the wrong bag to school.

According to a press release, a staff member discovered the cased and unloaded gun in the students backpack Wednesday morning before classes began. The schools resource officer, administration and law enforcement quickly responded to the matter and found that the student accidently grabbed an adult's backpack instead of their own.

"Our safety protocols worked effectively. We're committed to maintaining a secure learning environment across our district," said Superintendent Jeff Holmes.

The school district said they take potential threats seriously and are committed to maintaining safe environments. They encourage families to discuss the importance of reporting safety concerns with their children.
